We use the Read Write Inc. Handwriting programme throughout the school to support the development of confident, fluent handwriting skills. Progression maps for each year group are available below.

To help your child develop the fine motor skills needed for secure pencil and pen control, please refer to the ‘Developing Fine Motor Skills’ document below. The activities included are designed to strengthen the muscles in the hands and fingers, improve coordination, and build the control required for successful handwriting development.

Regular practice of these activities will support your child in becoming a more confident and proficient writer. They will also help your child develop a secure tripod grip, strengthening the control and coordination needed for neat, fluent, and comfortable handwriting.
